Curriculum Vitae
Nathalie Jean Baptiste is a PhD candidate at the Department of Spatial Planning and Research at the Bauhaus University Weimar in Germany. She is also affiliated with the Department of Waste Management at the Faculty of Civil Engineering focusing on the socio-spatial context of solid waste in developing communities.
Since 2004, Nathalie collaborates regularly with local environmental and governmental agencies, establishing guidelines to ensure continuity in biological treatments of household waste and developing strategies to improve waste education and awareness.
In June 2008, Nathalie joined the Environment Behavior and Society Research Group at the University of Sydney. Her main field of interest is the interconnection of people, the organic waste they produce, the built environment and the social-cultural context in which they are embedded. Through her work, Nathalie hopes to provide another clarification to the current perspective of sustainability in communities in Latin America.
Based on the principles of advocacy, participation and pragmatism, Nathalie’s work aims at generating knowledge through action. Currently she is undertaking a pilot study, which provides a brief look into the composition and volume of food waste produced in the homes of Sydneysiders.
