Anna Rubbo has degrees in architecture from the University of Melbourne and the University of Michigan, where she also taught. She has worked in practice in Australia (Ancher , Mortlock & Murray, G & R Block, Peter Muller) and the UK (Arup Associates), and in her doctorate investigated cultural and design questions in relation to housing and settlement patterns in a rural area of Colombia, South America. She has been a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University, New York and at the University of Michigan and worked on Architectural Education and Globalisation at the Center for the Education of Women.

She has served as head of the Department of Architecture Planning and Allied Arts, as BSc (Architecture) and BArch program coordinator, and as a member of the NSW Board of Architects. She was a member of the National Capital Authority Griffin Legacy Advisory Panel(2003-04) and the UN Millennium Project Taskforce to Improve the Lives of Slum Dwellers (2002-04). She convened Global Studio Istanbul 2005, Global Studio Vancouver 2006, and Global Studio Johannesburg (2007, 2008). She initiated and continues to convene the Thursday Night Lecture program and is a founding editor, with Dr Adrian Snodgrass, of the journal Architectural Theory Review. She is recipient of the 2005 RAIA Neville Quarry Education Prize commendation, and the 2006 RAIA Marion Mahony Griffin Award.

Research

Current research areas and interests include design education, participatory processes, architectural history and biography. Also housing, gender in relation to education and the profession, globalisation and architecture.

Teaching

Teaching has been primarily in design, and cross-cultural and community development issues, including social and environmental responsibility as it relates to design.
