Bachelor Of Design in Architecture
The study and practice of architecture is far more than simply designing and building structures. The work of architects informs our everyday lives as it shapes and reflects our society. Architecture is a multifaceted discipline at the forefront of cultural and social change and incorporates elements of design, philosophy, technology and sustainability. Architects need to be innovative and resourceful to meet the challenges of this constantly evolving environment where the possibilities for design and practice are infinite.
Every part of your daily life is affected by architecture whether it is the building you live in, the space you move through or even the clothes you’re wearing. Leading architects are now often involved in the design of new materials, structures, exhibitions, graphics, furniture, fashion, lighting, household products, theatre sets and art installations, as well as the traditional role as planner of houses, offices, schools, museums, airports, public spaces and city masterplans.
At a basic level, we measure a society by its past and current architecture. The ancient monuments of Europe illustrate the rich cultural past of the region while buildings such as the Sydney Opera House show the vision of a future Australia.
As such, architecture acts as a language, conveying the past, present and future of our experience. For example, a building from the 1930’s displays the aesthetics, and social values of the time while the technology that is available today can make designs and structures possible that, as little as ten years ago, could not be constructed. With modern society’s concerns about the environment, architects will play a major in redefining the look, sustainability and shape of our community.
As an architecture student, you will learn to combine creative design with a breadth of technical knowledge.
