Postgraduate Admissions Procedure
Information for the different methods of entry to our graduate coursework programs, including the Graduate Diploma, Graduate Certificate and Masters programs.

Application Deadlines
- Local: 30 November (March semester), 31 May (July semester)
- International: 31 October (March semester), 30 April (July semester)
Honours
All Master candidates must complete the 24 credit point dissertation in addition to the 72 credit points required for the pass degree.
Commencing in July semester
Students should note that some units offered in July semester have prerequisites and this may affect enrolment choice. Students should consult the coordinator to ensure their length of candidature will not be affected.

Application Process
Certification of academic transcripts:
If original academic transcripts are not provided, copies must be certified by the institution that issued the award. Certification from a Justice of the Peace or a solicitor/barrister is not acceptable. Alternatively, Faculty staff and the Student Centre can sight original documents and copy them for you. Applications received which do not provide an original or copied transcript as outlined above will not be assessed.
Certification of Australian citizenship, New Zealand citizenship or permanant residency status:
Copies of documents pertaining to citizenship or residency status must be certified. Certification from a Justice of the Peace or solicitor/barrister is acceptable for these documents.

If You Hold a Professional Degree & Portfolio
Applicants to the Architectural Design, Architectural & Urban Design and Urban Design & Planning programs must hold a professional architecture degree and submit a portfolio with their application.
The portfolio is to show examples of work completed as part of your university studies. The portfolio must be ‘on paper’ only – an A4 size booklet of no more than 10 single-sided pages, including drawings and model photographs.
For Architectural & Urban Design and Urban Design & Planning, the portfolio should show examples of design and design-related work completed as part of your university studies and/or samples of work from office or other professional experience. If the latter, your role in producing the work should be made clear. The portfolio must be on paper only, no more than 10 A4 or A3 sheets, and include drawings and other relevant items of illustration such as photographs of models.
If You Hold a Bachelors Degree
Applicants for the Masters and Graduate Diploma for the following degrees should hold a bachelors degree:
- Architectural History, Theory & Criticism
- Audio & Acoustics
- Building Design
- Building Services
- Design Computing
- Facilities Management
- Heritage Conservation
- Illumination Design
- Sustainable Design
- Urban & Regional Planning
For the Graduate Certificate, applicants should hold a bachelors degree or possess experience which is considered to demonstrate the knowledge and aptitude required to undertake the course.
If You Hold a Bachelors Degree & Portfolio
Students applying for the Digital Media program are required to submit with their application:
- A portfolio of design-related media and projects
- A letter of 500 word addressing the following topics: your specific expectations from the course, design or multimedia experience, areas of interest, motivation in undertaking studies in the Digital Media program at the University of Sydney, desired job placement at completion of the Degree.
