In Semester 1 2007, Audio Seminar will run as a practical acoustics and audio project class for senior students in the Master of Design Science (Audio and Acoustics).

UNIT OF STUDY OUTLINE

  • Credit points: 6
  • Teacher/Coordinator: Dr Densil Cabrera
  • Session: Semester 1,Semester 2
  • Classes: 1 hour seminar and individual supervision x 13 weeks
  • Assumed knowledge: DESC(9138 and 9011)
  • Assessment: Students will be required to do a small scale research project, which may be laboratory or studio based. This project will be presented in the seminar, and submitted with accompanying written report.
  • Mode of delivery: Normal (lecture/lab/tutorial) Day
  • Note: Department permission required for enrolment

Description

This unit introduces students to a broad range of current research in audio and acoustics, and gives them experience in research. It consists of a series of seminars on current research projects presented by active researchers in audio and acoustics, together with individual or small-group supervision of small-scale research projects. By completing this unit students will gain an understanding of the research process, and receive some modest experience in research. They will appreciate a range of research methods and subject areas at the forefront of audio and acoustics. They will be in a good position to assess their interest in undertaking further academic research.

Assessment

Early in the semester (or preferably prior to enroling), students define and develop a proposed project, which is undertaken during semester. The project is assessed in the following ways:

  • submission of report for review 30% - Due 16th May
  • seminar presentation 30% - Due 6th June or 13th June
  • final report submission 30% - Due 13th June
  • seminar participation 10%

SCHEDULE

Normal classes are on Fridays, 11am-2pm in the sound recording studio (144).
